This guide provides a select, annotated list of editions of some important primary sources for the history of Islamic Civilization that have been digitized and are available online. It focuses on sources in the Arabic language composed in the pre-Modern period (ca. 700-1500 CE/100-900 AH). The source texts presented here are divided into three broad categories that reflect genres of classical Arabic scholarship:

• People (biographical dictionaries or tabaqat)
• Places (geographical treatises and travelogues) 
• Events (annular chronicles or tawarikh)
